Road: Katherine Compton (Trek Cyclocross Collective) won a convincing victory in the women’s prestige class, and Sven Nys (Landbouwkrediet-Euphony) secured victory in the men’s races during Saturday’s World Cup competition in Koksijde. Åsa Erlandsson accounted for today’s best Swedish group.
Koksijde, Belgium offered a real crossväder when the third värlsdcupen in cyclocross was decided. The coastal city organized the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS last year, and now it was time for the World Cup and elite were on hand. The ladies ran five laps on the sandy track that became a running track for many. Compton took command from the start and extended to 1:30 minutes in goal. Nikki Harris (Telenet Fidea Cycling Team Young-) rode into second place. Belgian champion Sanne Cant (Veldritacademie Enertherm-BKCP) took the final podium place. Compton leads the World Cup standings with four races remaining.
The gentlemen had a tighter contrary. NYS and Albert (BKCP-Powerplus) was together at the end of the race with a gap down to the other. On the last lap and got jerked Albert Nys cord. The expected spurt did not occur, the world champion saw themselves defeated by 14 seconds and Nys took his first World Cup victory this year. Fransosen Francis Mourey finished third.
Magnus Darvell had problems with the bike and finished 41st.
Erlandsson went good
In the crowd of fans many Belgians and Englishmen but also some Swedes. They could cheer on four Swedish racers. Louis S ran in the U23 class, finishing 43: a. Class was won by Wietse Bosmans from Belgium. Compatriot Vout Van Aert came third after the Dutchman Michiel Van Der Heijden.
Åsa Erlandsson and Angelica e was the next Swedes out on the course. Erlandsson ran strong and finished 20th girl, seven positions ahead of Edward’s son.
“I am actually very happy with the race, but wow what a hassle it was to run so much in the sand,” said Erlandsson its course.
